Soo Bahk Do
Soo Bahk Do - called Tang Soo Do prior to 1995 - is known as "the way of the striking hand" and is a Korean martial art that was founded by Kwang Jang Nim Hwang Kee in 1945, based on his own study of the Moo Yei Do Bo Tong Ji martial arts book. The roots of Soo Bahk Do date back thousands of years.
Soo Bahk Do maintains the traditional teaching methods and is based on a disciplined approach that emphasizes tradition and technique. Consistent training leads to improved physical ability and mental focus. Soo Bahk Do trains the body in self-defense in order to help the practitioners discover their full potential. Soo Bahk Do is a versatile style that uses the entire body during combat, and movements range from slow and flowing to quick and spontaneous. This makes Soo Bahk Do not only an effective form of self-defense but also a traditional art form.
Soo Bahk Do is one of the most popular Korean martial arts, with seminars held in various countries throughout the year. The eight key concepts of Soo Bahk Do are:
- Yong Gi - Courage
- Chung Shin Tong Il - Concentration
- In Neh - Endurance
- Chung Jik - Honesty
- Kyum Son - Humility
- Him Cho Chung - Control of Power
- Shin Chook - Tension and Relaxation
- Wan Gup - Speed Control
