Jeet Kune Do
Jeet Kune Do is a martial art that was developed by Chinese film star and martial arts superstar Bruce Lee. Its literal translation is "way of the intercepting fist," though Lee said not to put much emphasis on the name - the process was more important to him.
Lee developed this style of fighting from a combination of many other forms, such as the martial arts processes Lee learned throughout his life, as well as boxing and fencing techniques Lee picked up later in his life.
Lee believed Jeet Kune Do was an ever-evolving process, as opposed to an art form that was set in stone. He believed that techniques could only be truly practiced in actual combat, as it was the only way to test new fighting techniques to make himself a more complete fighter. He equated practicing martial arts outside of real combat with learning to swim on dry land.
Lee believed that memorizing martial arts movements would be of no help in actual combat situations, which is why Jeet Kune Do is not so much a fighting style as a fighting philosophy.
Some schools today teach Jeet Kune Do the exact same way as Lee practiced it when he died in 1973. Other schools of thought disagree with this method, as they believe Lee wished for the style to continue to evolve, as he had stated it was not just a series of memorized movements.
